Sytchampton Meet Report - August 2025

It was a beautiful afternoon as Daphne and Mark S (stewards) chatted to Ann and Tim and started to wonder where everybody was.  The glorious weather surely would not put people off.  Had Ann’s heroics on the central reservation of a dual carriageway putting out signs been in vain?  Most people had not been to Sytchampton before so could they not find the village hall? Or did people just not want to turn out for a day meet in August?

We need not have worried as people started to arrive and a good turnout of 20 started to enjoy chatting, singing and dancing.  Nicola and Ivan decided to give our group a second go and even brought along a couple of friends, Julie and Nicolas.

Our revered chairman, Mark B, could only stop for the afternoon and illness had prevented our usual choice of crafts so we decided to have a dancing session, with several spots.  Mark called and a live band (Bob, Vanessa, Chris, Ann and Tim) did their best to keep up with the dancers!  It was particularly encouraging to see Chris and Jenny again, out and about, and stopping for the whole afternoon session.

Shared supper was as usual an extravagant feast though no jacket potatoes, to some dismay!  By way of compensation Mark S produced a potato quiz – all the answers were varieties of potatoes!  Who knew there were so many!  The best part of the quiz was that Tim did not win – that honour went to Gill.

It was disappointing that Ivan, who had not played his guitar for years, was unable to do a spot because he and Nicola had to leave early.  We are looking forward to his debut next time.

After supper we did spots around the room with some more dancing – thanks to John C for calling.  Val sold lots of raffle tickets where there was a magnificent array for prizes.

The usual Midland team effort saw the hall emptied, clean and tidy in twenty minutes – thanks everybody!!!!
