Sinton Green Meet Report - September 2025

The Grimley Peace Hall at Sinton Green in Worcestershire is one of our favourite village halls and we normally have a meet here in September. It has a lovely mix of hard standing and grassy areas, some beautiful mature trees with ample room for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Our stewards were Bob and Noreen. Sadly missing some of our regular members due to illness or foreign travels, we were pleased to welcome Jane and Richard from North Central and with additional members arriving to boost our numbers on Saturday, we had 10 units at the meet.

On Friday evening we brought our meals over to the hall and ate together, with some late arrivals who came in time to take part in the evening entertainment, one of whom was Mark B. Without his timely arrival we would not have had a caller for the Friday evening dances. Ann and Tim formed a very small but adequate band and provided live music for dancing on both evenings. We had a casual evening going round the room with individual members offering songs and poems, interspersed with dances.

On Saturday morning we enjoyed a morning cuppa together, before Noreen offered a craft activity creating miniature cross-stitch fridge magnets. Some of us had to take this home to finish, but a rather beautiful duck was completed by TC. Bob produced a mammoth quiz to be tackled throughout the day, with answers to be given during the evening entertainment.

The hall was a hive of activity after lunch, with some members chatting, others carrying on with crafts, while several musicians gathered to play and sing for an hour or two. Chris brought over a partially finished jigsaw from her caravan with which some progress was although it was still unfinished by the end of the evening. John C, feeling adventurous, set out to collect some damsons, but he didn’t escape a soaking in a sudden downpour! Meanwhile, Daphne and Mark S were awaiting the arrival of the breakdown services having had a problem with their motorhome!

In the evening, we sat down to a shared supper, with the usual delightful variety of dishes. The quiz was won by Mark S and Daphne, but a disappointed Tim was out of the running as he hadn’t realised that the questions continued over the page, so had only completed half of it! Better luck next time Tim!

Our evening entertainment began with Richard and Jane, who led us in a Valeta. John C called a number of dances throughout the evening while others sang or read poems, until Richard said that he would like to call ‘Postie’s Jig’. We have some proficient dancers, others of us are enthusiastic, but are somewhat less proficient! However, on this occasion we proved to be up to the challenge and completed this difficult dance with aplomb!

On Sunday morning we gathered for a final cuppa and chat. Thank you, Bob and Noreen, for a most enjoyable weekend.

Beth
