Sytchampton Meet Report - August 2026
Meet Report – Sytchampton Village Hall, 7th – 9th August 2026
Well, the sun shone down on a capacity crowd at Sytchampton Village Hall for our August quiz-themed meet. Our wonderful steward for the weekend, Gaynor Butler, went above and beyond for the weekend and greeted us with not one, but two quizzes on Friday as we arrived, prompting much discussion and hilarity. It was lovely to welcome visitors Debbie from Doncaster, and John who’s local, and we hope that they will visit us again soon.
We tried our hands at a Quordle jigsaw – a fiendish circular wooden contraption with no straight edges and no regular pieces. But alongside was a more conventional puzzle which gave some light relief.
We all brought our supper into the hall in the evening, so that we could eat together and afterwards, we cleared the tables away and Gay organised a sing around, interspersed with dances.
On Saturday morning we enjoyed a selection of craft activities including encaustic wax painting, shell painting and lavender wands (pictures posted elsewhere on our Facebook page). On Saturday afternoon some crafts continued, whilst Mark Burton led a callers’ workshop. Beth and Bob tried their hand at calling whilst a few of us pretended to be dancers who knew nothing – not too hard a stretch! Afterwards there was a music and song session.
Oh, and there were a couple more quizzes to follow! And another Quordle puzzle because we’d managed to finish the last one!
In the evening we all contributed to a shared supper – we each brought a contribution to the table and created a delicious feast with plenty of variety.
After supper we were delighted to form a live band for dancing, so Mark Burton MC’d an evening of dancing and spots, with the usual raffle at half time and the prizes for the hotly contended quizzes!
Sunday arrived too soon, but the fun hadn’t ended – Roger ran a short workshop looking at Devil’s Dream. So now we are experts! (?)
And so, it was time to depart for home and look forward to our next Midlands outing which will be at Sinton Green, Sept 11th – 13th.
