Rowington Meet Report - June 2026

Friday, 12th June - Sunday, 14th June, 2026

We have just enjoyed a weekend catching up with friends old & new at Midland Folk Group Meet at Rowington Village Hall, Warwickshire.

Fourteen units attended & we found it particularly heartwarming to see Carol Pearce flying solo in her new unit, hopefully Bertie is proudly looking down from his cloud. The weekend was ably organised by Beth & Bill Hughes (stewards) with eclectic talents on show all weekend with sing-arounds & ceilidh dances and a ‘British Summer Holiday’ theme.

Friday teatime was a ‘bring your own’ get together tea, after which was a quiz, won jointly by Jeff & June/John Curry & Gill. This was followed by Bob the Elder (Small) who was MC on the Friday Night for a sing around with storytelling and dances.

Teatime on Saturday was a ‘bring & share tea’ for all, followed by the Saturday Night’s Ceilidh Dance. The MC was the ever-flamboyant Beth complete with top hat and Master of Ceremonies dress. Although there wasn't a live band, there was ample good music for dancing supplied via a number of laptops & other electrical gizmos, together with a raffle which was drawn at the interval.

There were also crafts, music & other competitions available during the weekend, with one craft we had never seen before, the making of necklace napkin holders. The competitions were Quoits won by Mark Simons & Tin Can Alley won by Jeff Elmes. A jigsaw was completed over the weekend, obviously of a narrow boat on the canal as there is a canal nearby.

The world infamous Gypsy Rose Lee had an elaborate fortune telling tent in the corner of the hall but alas was only there in spirit. She kept excusing herself for non-attendance ‘in person’ which became a competition in its own right.

Sunday came around far too soon, probably because we had so enjoyed such a lovely weekend, therefore a wholehearted thank you to everyone for making it so.
