Fillongley Meet Report - May 2025

Fillongley Village Hall has a large capacity field and is the venue for our annual Boules Tournament. Linda and Gay were our stewards for the weekend, with Linda stewarding for the first time. As the hall wasn’t available until 4.00p.m. early arrivals sat outside enjoying the wall-to-wall sunshine. In the evening, we brought our meals into the hall and ate together as usual, before Gay compered a sing around interspersed with dances. In honour of the Boules Tournament the quiz was all about France, with Jeff and June winning the laurels.

Saturday morning dawned cold and cloudy. Whilst the committee held their meeting, other members worked on craft projects or played some music. After lunch we convened on the field for the Boules Tournament, by which time the clouds had cleared away and we were back to blue skies and sunshine. The winning team was Mike and Bill who were presented with their trophies by the Vice-Chair, Beth.

The shared supper on Saturday evening provided a good variety of dishes. It was followed by a music quiz (won by a team of 6), before John Curry took charge as our MC for the evening, with entertainment including songs, poems and funny stories. Ivan gave out song sheets and led us in a medley of songs on the accordion. The String Ensemble also led us in a couple of songs, although there were more in the Ensemble than in the audience! On both evenings a small band was led by Julia providing live music for the dances which were called by Gay, John, Mark and Mike.

17 units? attended over the weekend, and we were pleased to welcome old friends Eleanor? and Bill? from Hinckley.
