Corley Village Hall Meet Report October 2026

What a fantastic, well attended Halloween meet at Corley Village Hall 16-18 October 26 with our stewards Gill and John C. There were over 16 units. The weekend was packed with great memories and laughter.

Although we arrived later in the evening due to work commitments and traffic, we were welcomed with open arms by Gill, just in time for tea and biscuits.

Gill was MC for the Friday evening and introduced in turn the wonderful talented folk group members for those who wanted to participate in a spot. There was no pressure for those of us who just wanted to take part as the audience. John J, Gay, Pete and Mark B called some dances too and some didn't go quite to plan! I could hardly dance from crying with laughter at how some of us got into a muddle. I haven't laughed so much in ages, it was great fun. A quiz was held and Val, Bill and Beth won. The 1000-piece jigsaw had been started, the edges were complete and some of the centre was starting to come together.

On Saturday morning we had tea and biscuits, paid for our stay and had a good natter with everyone. Gill held a crochet/knitting workshop to make poppies. I struggled, so Gill showed me how to start a granny square, thank you Gill for all your patience and not giving up on me! John had organised games in the afternoon, pumpkin skittles, throwing hoops over witches’ hats, Halloween quizzes and dingbats, as well as trying to guess what was inside numbered packages. It was all great fun with packs of sweets for the winners. The hall was decorated with Halloween themes and battery-operated lights inside pumpkins were on the tables ready for the start of our shared supper. What a spread it was as always, a great range of food and treats. After our wonderful supper, those who had dressed up in Halloween costumes paraded around the room. What an array of outfits, everyone looked the part and the winner was Mark S, well done. During the evening, intriguing spooky noises could be heard, where were they coming from?

Bob the younger was MC for Saturday with great spots and dances called by Beth, Mark B, Mike, Pete and John J. There were so many talented spots and to name but a few, Dena sang a song about IKEA while playing her ukulele, Mark S had written a song about some of the members of the Midland group, but did anyone recognise themselves? What talent!

More pieces of the puzzle had been placed during the day but it still needed to be completed so it was ‘all hands on deck’ for the mission to complete it and it was achieved.

On Sunday we had our tea/coffee morning and everyone helped to sort the hall ready to leave.

Well done to the stewards Gill and John C for such a welcoming and fun weekend.
